Talcum Powder Lawsuit Lawyers in New Hampshire
We Are Backed by Over 30 Years of Experience
For decades, women have been using talcum-based powders, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder, as a personal hygiene substance. While the product may appear harmless, many medical reports state that many of these talc-based products have been linked to the development of ovarian cancer in women. In fact, the United States Food and Drug Administration states that literature from as far back as the 1960’s has suggested a connection between talc powders and ovarian cancer.
If you or someone you love has developed ovarian cancer, and you believe it may have been caused by a talc-powder, it is crucial that you contact experienced representation right away. At Shaheen & Gordon, P.A., our New Hampshire personal injury lawyers are committed to protecting the rights of those harmed by other persons and entities.

Dangerous Talcum Powder Constituents
Most talcum powder products are made using the following types of ingredients:
- Oxygen talcum
- Silicon
- Magnesium
In most cases, these products are used to reduce and prevent friction that is caused by excessive moisture. Additionally, many people find these products useful to maintain drier skin in order to decrease the likelihood of rashes. However, studies have shown that when talc powder products are used on or near female genitals, the particles can migrate inside the body and become trapped in the ovaries. When these particles become stuck in the ovaries, they can cause the ovaries to inflame and produce cancer cells.
According to the Cancer Prevention Research Journal, women who use these products on or near the genital areas increase the risks of developing ovarian cancer by nearly 41%. Still, many of these talcum powder products remain in stores and do not come equipped with adequate safety warnings.
Johnson & Johnson Discontinues Talc-Based Baby Powder in North America
In May of 2020, Johnson & Johnson announced that it would stop selling its popular talc-based baby powder at stores in North America. Over the last couple of decades, thousands of women who developed ovarian cancer and mesothelioma after using Johnson & Johnson’s talc-based products have filed more than 19,400 lawsuits against the company.
As a result of one of these lawsuits, internal documents were revealed that showed Johnson & Johnson was aware that the talc-based powder it manufactured possibly contained trace amounts of asbestos. Although Johnson & Johnson knew this vital piece of information, the company failed to warn the public of the potential health risks. It is important to note that, Johnson & Johnson will continue to sell talc-based baby powder in other counties outside of North America.
