New Hampshire Attorneys for Belviq Recall Lawsuits
Belviq Lawsuits Filed After Cancer Risk Sparks FDA Recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested the recall of Belviq and Belviq XR (lorcaserin) from the market, stating that the potential risk of cancer outweighs the benefits of the weight-loss drug. In February 2020, manufacturer Eisai Co., Ltd. complied with the voluntary recall—but for many who took Belviq, it was already too late.
If you have been diagnosed with cancer because of Belviq or its generic equivalent, you may be eligible for financial compensation.

About the 2020 Belviq Recall
The FDA first approved the drug in 2012 under the condition that Eisai would evaluate the drug’s potential threat to cardiovascular health. A thorough clinical trial was conducted over a span of 5 years. Twelve thousand patients participated. Sadly, cardiovascular health did not end up being the problem; instead, it was found that Belviq put patients at a heightened risk of developing various cancers.
What Kind of Cancer Does Belviq Cause?
The FDA found that Belviq could lead to several cancer diagnoses.
The most common were found to be:
- Pancreatic cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Lung cancer
Who Can File a Belviq Lawsuit?
If you took Belviq, Belviq XR or generic lorcaserin and were diagnosed with cancer, you likely qualify to sue the drug’s manufacturer. A Belviq lawsuit could result in full compensation for your hospital bills, medication expenses, pain and suffering, emotional distress, lost earnings and more.
You may also file suit on behalf of a loved one if they were diagnosed with cancer due to these drugs. However, they must be unable to file suit on their own, either because they are under 18 years of age, incapacitated or have passed away.
All manufacturers have a duty to ensure that their drugs are safe for use. If there are any health risks, they are legally obligated to disclose them. Therefore, manufacturers should be held accountable for allowing Belviq and generic lorcaserin to remain on the market for 8 years, without any warning of their link to cancer.
