New Hampshire attorney Bill Christie is lead plaintiffs’ counsel in seven consolidated wrongful death cases against the United States Government in the Federal District Court in Boston, Massachusetts arising from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s negligent use of James “Whitey” Bulger and Stephen “the Rifleman” Flemmi as FBI informants.
In June 2006, Bill Christie and Steve Gordon brought the first of these cases to trial. In September 2006, the District Court issued an opinion finding that the United States was responsible for the murder of FBI informant John McIntyre and awarded $3.1 million in damages. The United States Government appealed the judgment and on March 3, 2008, Bill Christie argued the case at the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston, Massachusetts.
In November 2007, Bill Christie and Steve Gordon obtained summary judgment against the United States when the District Court ruled without a trial that the United States was also responsible for the murder of FBI informant Brian Halloran. In March 2008, Bill Christie tried the damages portion of the case. An award of damages in anticipated in the spring.
